Half Hull Classics
Category: Models
Since 1790 it has been customary for shipwrights to fashion a half-model of a ship prior to construction. Handcrafted forms similar to these enabled the builder to study and perfect hull design before a complete set of plans were drawn. These models were not only functional but were often used to adorn the walls of ship yard offices.
“Boatbuilding has been a tradition in the Chambers family for over 120 years. From the early day shipyards in Scotland to the local boat yards of the 1950’s, ships have been a major part of our lives.” A craftsman shaping a half-hull was a familiar sight in seaport towns for over 190 years. Since 1973, that scene has been recreated in the workshop of Half-Hull Classics by Scott Chambers.
