CRAIG RYDER

The Boy Scouts of Camp Wah Tut Ca in Northwood, New Hampshire just launched a new sailing surf dory built by Graham McKay of Lowell’s Boat Shop in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Modified from Lowell's standard surf dory design, the 27′ x 7′ ketch will also serve as a pulling boat. Graham built the hull with cypress planking on black locust frames, custom cast oarlocks, and copper and bronze fasteners. Some of the fasteners came from two navy whaleboats that were used by the camp in the 1930s and 1940s. She has a mainsail with a standing lug, and a sprit-rigged mizzen. Named the CRAIG RYDER after a legendary former camp director who passed away in 2006, she will be used by thousands of Scouts on Northwood Lake in Northwood New Hampshire. For more information, email Graham or visit the websites of Lowell’s Boat Shop or Camp Wah Tut Ca.
