Purpose

The Register of Wooden Boats lists information on wooden boats 20' and above in overall length. It came into being after (and somewhat because) the annual Lloyd's Register of American Yachts and the subsequent short-lived North American Yacht Register ceased publication. We have compiled and published five editions over the past decade.

Keeping track of boats and yachts is a tradition dating to the late 1800s, first with Manning's Yacht Register, then with Lloyd's. Researchers, museums, and boat owners have found the information contained in these early registers of great value in tracking historically significant watercraft, pinning down their particulars, and in general learning more about the boat or boats that are of particular interest to them.

Our mission is solely to keep track of all the wooden boats that we possibly can.
