Wolfgang Brinck Native Watercraft
Students of the school learn to build traditional Arctic skin on frame kayaks and kayak paddles. At the end of a course, students take home a finished kayak. The school's location in Alameda, CA offers pleasant temperatures year round and a spectactular view of San Francisco Bay and the city it is named after.
Courses emphasize not only on crafts aspects but also on traditional skills and values such as resourcefulness and ingenuity in the face of a meager resources and respect for the boat and the sea which make survival in a challenging environment possible.
School instructor Wolfgang Brinck has been invited to teach kayak building at a number of Aleut Culture Camps and is the author of The Aleutian Kayak.
