This event is open to wooden-hulled dinghies or smaller keel boats which can be launched from a cartop or trailer, with maximum weight about 2,400 pounds and maximum LOA of 30 feet. We encourage older one-designs and modern one-offs. Handicapping will be by Portsmouth Yardstick. If you’d like to be notified, please select “WOOD Regatta” as an interest when you sign up for our free newsletter. Our thanks to the brave people at the Rock Hall Yacht Club! Please do NOT contact the Rock Hall Yacht Club for further information about this event.

The WOOD (Wooden Open & One-Design) Regatta was established by WoodenBoat magazine in 1991. Our second event, in 1992, was held in Newport, RI in conjunction with the WoodenBoat Show, and featured 100 boats in 30 different classes (mostly one-designs), ranging from 7′7″ Nutshell Prams to 30′ International 210s. US Sailing awarded us their “One-Design Creativity Award” for that event in 1992. Our goal with this event has been to honor and inspire older one-design classes and modern custom boats and their owners, to compete in a fair and exciting series of races, with ratings under Portsmouth Yardstick.

Notice of Race & Application Form

Racing will commence on the afternoon of Friday, May 18, and will also occur all day on Saturday, May 19, and Sunday morning, May 20. The morning of Friday, May 18 will be set aside for launching and practice on the race course. All races will be run in accordance with the rules of racing as currently promulgated by U.S. Sailing. Membership in U.S. Sailing is NOT required to participate in the WOOD Regatta.

There will be a SEPARATE application form for dinners, etc. as soon as we determine those costs. Our primary effort is to make food wholesome and affordable.

Please complete the Application Form PDF document and email, fax, or mail to us as soon as you can. If you email or fax, you may send your entry fee by regular mail (please attach a copy of the application you had previously submitted). Please indicate on the Application Form how many people will be liable to be joining you (beside your crew) for shoreside activities. At this point, we’re only requesting an estimate.

Please send your completed Application Form to:

Application deadline: May 5, 2012. No entries accepted after that date.

  1. Please add your sail number and topsides color to your application (sorry). And please include your email address.
  2. The Rock Hall Yacht Club has ample parking for vehicles and trailers. There are three launching options. The first, for lighter boats that can be carried, is the large and convenient beach. The second, for boats less than 1000 lbs. that are suitably equipped, there is a hoist. If you need a ramp for launching, there is a county ramp just around the corner next to Long Cove Marina. You’ll not be able to park at the ramp for the weekend, so plan to ferry vehicles and trailers back to RHYC after launching.
