Bayfront Maritime Center
Since beginning in 1998, the Bayfront Maritime Center in Erie Pennsylvania has worked with over 14,000 youth and adults to build 90 boats including canoes, kayaks, dories, skiffs, iceboats, and the Erie Boat, http://www.bayfrontcenter.org/meet-the-boats/the-erie-boat/ .
The Erie Boat is the 29′ cat ketch rigged reproduction of the sailing workboat in use when Erie, Pennsylvania was the freshwater fishing capital of the world between 1880 and 1920.
BMC creates positive learning experiences through boat building, sailing, adaptive sailing, studying chart plotting and navigation, and learning about the environment.
BMC’s mission is to: design and implement hands-on, maritime-themed educational, recreational and vocational opportunities for the community in a universally accessible waterfront facility. http://www.bayfrontcenter.org/
