SQUALICORAX
Ken Spring writes "Keith Matlack uses his 15'7" x 41" sharpie skiff, SQUALICORAX (Latin name of an extinct shark) for fossil hunting along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay.
This section of our web site, an extension of the Launchings department of WoodenBoat magazine, is dedicated to sharing news of recently launched wooden boats built or restored by our readers. If you’ve launched a boat within the past year, please email us at launchings@woodenboat.com, or post your news here. (All posts are subject to approval and editing before being made live.)
To refine your search, add quote marks. If you search Wood Duck, you will get all the listings which include Wood and Duck. To refine, search “Wood Duck” and you’ll see just Wood Duck results.

Jonathan Alvarez, a Rhode Island resident, built this 17′5″ Cirrus kayak over four-and-a-half years and launched her last Labor Day.
Fishing kayak design by Nick Schade combines speed and stability well suited for hot weather fishing. Thanks to the folks at Chesapeake Light Craft for their great kit.

I’ve had a notion for a long time to build a wooden sailboat and teach myself to sail in it. I chose the Passagemaker Take-Apart Dinghy because I could build it and store it in my suburban two-car garage. I wanted the added complexity of a jib to make it more of a challenge to sail properly.
I recently finished restoring a 1960’s Comet sailboat. She needed a new deck and a good paint scraping. Many thanks to WoodenBoat School for instilling the confidence to take on such a project.
The Comet is a hard-chine boat with a low freeboard and centerboard. See WB 31.
This Chestnut Prospector canoe is a design by Ted Moores of Bear Mountain Boat Shop. Don Sandall of Edmonds, WA, built the boat using cedar strip construction, then fiberglassed the hull inside and out. He then gave the hull 8 coats of UV protecting varnish.
Rowboat #17 was developed over the course of 5 years. I had built 16 models to evaluate performance and ease of building. The main purpose was for pleasure rowing with my dogs Rowdy & Nala.
I built this boat from a kit purchased from Chesapeake Light Craft. I have built 4 wood strip boats previously. I built a kayak, a canoe, a row boat and a sail boat. My saying is “never build your last boat”.
