Louie
My Doug Hylan designed 13′ Beach Pea is the first wooden boat I have built from scratch. She is made from okoume ply, Douglas Fir, with utile mahogany thwarts and knees and Sitka spruce spars.
Periwinkle
A modified Chesapeake Light Craft Guider. I built this boat over the 2021-2022 winter in my garage/shop in Connecticut. I am sailing her out of Pulpit Harbor in Penobscott Bay, Maine.
Solar Breeze
Solar powered electric launch using CLC Southwester Dory plans. She has a 3-hp Torqeedo motor mounted in a well as well as Torqeedo solar panels. Shaw and Tenney oars and a sprit rig provide towing and sailing options as well. A Norwegian tiller runs fore and aft.
DRIFTWOOD
Stephen Champagne and his wife bought DRIFTWOOD, a 32′ Grand Banks, in May 2014. They put her in drydock for seven weeks and had a crew of five shipwrights working on her. They sistered 17 of her frames, replaced both chines, and 160 feet of planking.
FISH TALES
FISH TALES was built from scratch and is substantially all mahogany. A 19 gallon gas tank is beneath the bow deck, along with an anchor hatch. The center console is mahogany and the Captain’s seat is a design borrowed from older Boston Whalers. The boat is powered by a 70 hp Yamaha outboard.
PUNCOTEAGUE
Tim White of the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, Connecticut, writes, that this boat was part of classes run at the boatshop and started in September 2001. We used the original one page drawing obtained from Mystic Seaport of the Cape Anne Dory dated 1939.
JUST ONE MORE
Constant Camber construction. Main hull has inner/outer layers of 1/14″ fir, sandwiching two layers of cedar. Amas are three layers of fir. Started building 30 years ago!!
SHELLBACK DINGHY
Evan Taylor of Fonthill, Ontario built this Joel White-designed Shellback dinghy in 2001. He used okoume plywood planking with white oak trim. The seats are pine. His wife sewed the sail from a Sailrite kit. Evan sails her on Lake Erie.
LINDA JEAN
A 100-year-old corncrib provided much of the wood for this 25' Chesapeake Skipjack. The keelson, frames, centerboard, and rudder are white oak. The cabin sides and trim are solid cherry. The builder, Lynn Miller, plans to use it for extended voyaging and cruising on the Great Lakes.
