David Calloway wrote that a couple of years ago, he was infected with the boatbuilding bug. He spent many enjoyable hours looking for boats to build on the internet before he decided on Jim Michalak's QT design.
Nutshell pram built as tender to friendship sloop “Ruth L”. Launched May 30,2013 at Greenlaw Cove, Deer Isle, Maine.
This is a copy of the XVIII century boat. She belonged to the Russian emperor Peter first. The original is now stored in the Naval Museum, in Sank-Petersburg, Russia.
John Beck built this Chesapeake Light Craft Shearwater 17 hybrid using white and red cedar strips for the hull and decking, and added aniline dye to the hull to give it a blue color. John won the best in show at the 2007 Okoume Fest sponsored by CLC.
Red cedar strip-built Freedom 17 canoe designed by Steve Killing. Followed Ted Moores’ book “Canoecraft” religiously as this is my first boat. Ash inwales and outwales, cherry yoke and thwarts, Port Orford Cedar with walnut accented decks. Paddles carved from maple.
John Parrish built this Tandem Annapolis Wherry from a kit by Chesapeake Light Craft. He writes that at 19′10″, it is 3′ longer than the one-man version of the same boat, and that it was the first one that CLC put into kit form.
Tim Allen built this 7' pram from a design by Glen-L Boats of Bellflower, CA. Named CROW'S NEST, he intended her as a sailing pram using leeboards. He found that it only sails downwind and capsizes easily, so Tim bought a 2hp Honda motor to replace the sailing rig.
MORNING WOOD is a Chester Yawl I built from a Chesapeake Light Craft kit (CLC). She was slow in the making as I acquired the Whitehall kit in 2007. The box followed me through several moves and I started working on her in 2014, a few hours here and there, schedule permitting.
Landlocked in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, we built our Skerry in spare time over four years from a Chesapeake Light Craft kit. The only stitch and glue boat we’ve ever seen is the one we built. Still don’t know if she’s right, but she seems to sail and row just fine.
