Using lines taken from an 1880s Adirondack Canoe at the Antique Boat Museum, volunteers Chuck Cripe and Seb Borrello built little SUSAN NIPPER, under direction from curator John Summers, as an ongoing live demonstration for museum visitors. Thought she is under 8' long, she will hold an adult.
Inspired by Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons series of books, Steve, Fiammetta, and Elena Householder built this 10′ 2″ Acorn Puffin dinghy, AZURE, designed by Iain Oughtred.
Hugh Groth has built seven canoes but this is the first strip-built one, and the first one he designed himself. He designed it specifically for he and his wife to use together, moving the stern seat forward to improve balance.
Rick Granger built this Chesapeake Light Craft Wood Duck 10 over six weeks in the winter of 2010-2011. The 10' hull weighs just 34 pounds and is made from 3mm okoume plywood, with a deck of western red and white cedar strips.
Mark Babcock built a Phil Bolger 15' Diablo design, which he named LINDA MARIE. He writes "I built the hull of fiberglass over plywood as described in the plans but added oak seats and gunwales in place of the plywood called for in the book.
David and Benji Cantera, father and son, asked their friend, John Swain, a shipwright, to design and help them build a 10′8″ skiff, LEAPIN’ LENA. They covered the hull bottom, transom, and deck in marine plywood sheathed with Dynel cloth. They planked the hull in white cedar on white oak frames.
A wooden paddle board built by Matthew Young in Santa Fe NM. Built out of plywood and local ponderosa pine to builders own design. Intended for standup paddling, sit on top kayaking, fishing ,and lounging. Picture is Deva Sign Kalsa on Heron Lake Chama, NM.
The “LUCKY LADY TOO” was built from a Portage Pram kit purchased from Duckworks in Port Townsend WA. It is a tender for our 1969 30' Tollycraft Royal Double Cabin cruiser, The Lucky Lady. The weight is approximately 40 lbs.
Mahogany inboard. New varnish & bottom paint. Newish 383 (500-hp). 50 mph. New upholstery.
Restored in ME by Jonathan Minott (seen in WB "Launchings" July/Aug 2009).
Partial restoration. Has rare Edson oscillating (worm) steering system.
