The stringers, floorboards and wales are Douglas Fir. Stems and “decks” are 12 mm Meranti ply and ribs are Arroyo Willow cut a short distance from the shop. Skin is 8 oz. polyester from George Dyson and it's finished with four coats (1st thinned 7x1) of clear water-based varnish. Finished weight is 31 pounds.

Describing himself as a subscriber from day one, Bob Haig of Sarnia, Ontario, just built a Solo Carry Canoe. Hilary Russell of the Berkshire Boat Building School in Sheffield, Massachusetts designed the Solo Carry. He relied on the article in WoodenBoat Nos. 205 and 206, he spent several weeks on the construction and launched her last September.
