ANDIAMO, CLC Tandem Annapolis Wherry

This is my first ever build. It’s from a CLC Tandem Annapolis Wherry kit that my wife gave me for Christmas. Long, cold winters in Wisconsin made for an enjoyable way to spend time indoors. The boat was launched last May, when the ice cleared from our local lakes. I used it all summer and fall with my rowing partner for fun and fitness.

Construction is Okume plywood lap-stitch on Okume bulkheads. Encapsulated epoxy, and bottom-sheathed in fiberglass. Painted outsides, varnished insides. Inside floor non-slip paint. Piantedosi drop-in row-wing units. Concept 2 sculls.

The launch of “Badger” was attended by family and friends at Clark Center Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Badger’s design is based upon the lines and offsets from John Gardner's plans for a 14 foot rowing Peapod in his book, “Building Classic Small Craft.” In consultation with naval architect Paul Ricelli, the design was adapted for construction in 3/8 inch thick cypress strips, encapsulated in 10 oz fiberglass cloth. The keel is ash with red oak gunwales, pine thwarts, ipe oarlock pads and walnut breasthooks.

This boat was designed and built by Robert Wallace between October 2001 and May 2002. He launched her in May on White Oak Pond in northeastern Pennsylvania. The skiff has a 10' LOA and maximum beam of 39". She is a semi-V hull. Bob writes "It is rather unimpressive looking, but for my first time, I'm pleased. It didn't leak a drop since its launch. It maneuvers easily in the water. I'm catching fish! Your magazine and web site were a tremendous help." Contact Robert at send-it@att.net.
