Seattle Central Community College
Marine Carpentry at Seattle Central Community College
As the oldest boatbuilding program in the country, Marine Carpentry has a long history of supplying professional boatbuilders to the industry. Originally teaching only in wooden boatbuilding, the school added a Laminates department in 1971. Today we include Resin Infusion in addition to continuing with instruction in open molding. Repairing damaged fiberglass is emphasized during the composite instruction.
Our students are continually building and repairing boats in wood, as this is the heart of the program. We teach traditional plank-on-frame and riveted lapstrake, as well as more modern methods of glued lap and cold molding. Again, repair is emphasized, as is interior joinery and marine cabinetry.
We enroll new students four times a year.
Classes run 8:30 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday through Thursday. Always closed Fridays.
