Boatbuilder Douglas Brooks took these photographs of his friend Thomas Hickley, of Cornwall, Vermont, enjoying his new 7′9″ Sea Midge. Thomas built the boat from plans by William D. Jackson that appeared in the 1961 edition of the Boat Builders Handbook, (Volume 12, Fall 1961, published by Science and Mechanics magazine). He planked her with 1/4″ plywood, made her transom from oak, and the rest of the boat from pieces of scrap wood in his shop. He launched the Sea Midge last October and found her to be stable and easy to row.
