Oar & Paddle

A new 11.6 pound canoe named Pheather2

Having made a 25lb canoe previously, I wanted to play with how light I could go for my next canoe. My research made me think I could get down to around 15 pounds for a 12' canoe so I decided to go for it. I reduced the number of ribs, a few stringers, thinned up the gunwales and keel, went with a Kootenay design for the ends and attached a clear 20 gauge vinyl for the skin. This boat is definitely built for calm, urban waters and will never see waves. It was great fun to design/build and the final weight came in at 11.6 pounds including the cheap foam seat. The bow stem slots into a receiver on the back of my bicycle and I pedal to the little lake in the core of our sister city, Kitchener, Ontario.

Full details of the entire build along with summaries of my two other boats can be found at my free website: https://urbanboatproject.weebly.com/

Note to editor, i also have many other pictures you could choose from. And I'm not sure if the resolution of the main picture showing me paddling is high enough quality. If needed I can get a better show on short notice.
