Rich Gaito is seen here sailing JAYLENE KERR off Merchant Island, just south of Stonington, Maine. JAYLENE KERR is a Joel White Shearwater design (16' x 53" beam) that Rich built during the winter of 2001-2002. He used plywood lap construction on laminated frames.

I built this cedar strip version of a CLC Annapolis Wherry over an 18 month period & about 1500 hours. Rather than buying the recommended “drop-in” rowing rigs I constructed my own assemblies in both the single & double configurations. The boat is a sweet & composed row!
The Welsford Navigator, Puffin, was launched on June 5, 2016. This is my first scratch built boat. Okume plywood was used throughout with white oak and Brazilian cherry for the various and sundry bits.
The Launchings section of WoodenBoat No. 225 featured Wayne Mueller's skiff BLUEBIRD, a 17′ 6″ design that Wayne based on Tom Hill’s Long Point skiff and Mark Murray's Sea Hoss skiff. BLUEBIRD was built from meranti and sapele marine plywood on sawn elm frames.

Jun'ichi launched KIRI, a 15'6" pulling boat designed by William Atkin in May 2002. He uses KIRI (Japanese for 'mist') in the waters near Victoria, BC. KIRI is equipped with three rowing stations and a 4-hp Evinrude for propulsion.
The Northwest School of Wooden Boat Building launched this 14′7″-long Scandal skiff last summer. William Atkin designed the Scandal in 1924 to be a slender and fast boat suitable for use with a small outboard motor.
