VITTORIA DI FIRENZE SETTE
Along with the kayak GIANNI DI BOLOGNA, Jon Raggett designed, built, and launched both of these kayaks in June 2001. These two K-1 Flatwater sprint boats are 17 feet long, 17" beam, and weigh just 18 pounds each.
WALTZING MATILDA
Paul Day of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, built this folding schooner, Phil Bolger design 268. WALTZING MATILDA is 31 feet long and 5 feet long. Paul reports she planes through the water at a 'scorching speed'. He and his wife launched her on a lake near their home.
EMILY P
Taking just three years to complete this Karl Stambaugh designed centerboard ketch, Mort Hyslop launched the EMILY P on July 15, 2002 in Northern Lake Michigan. He used marine fir plywood for the hull, built over Douglas fir frames and covered with cloth and epoxy.
Lil Tyke
Lil Tyke is a 15′4″ (on deck) x 5′ 4″ beam sloop, designed by Edwin Monk. The design and construction information was published in the 1958 issue of “Boats you can build” by Popular Mechanics, #592.Built, using fir frames, 1/4″ plywood and sheathed in Epoxy/Fiberglass.
ACORN DINGHY
Iain Oughtred of Findhorn, Scotland, designed this 10' dinghy that Larry Dow built over the winter of 2002. After 200 hours of construction, he launched her in Eliot, Maine, in July 2002. He used 6mm marine plywood with a laminated fir stem and mahogany trim.
PARASOL
Dwight Jacobus calls his boat an "outboard cabin launch". Though he lives in Kentucky, he trailered PARASOL 1000 miles to southwestern Florida to launch her on January 15, 2003, after spending 15 months constructing her.
NIPMUC CANOE
After building a kayak for himself, and one for his son, Geoff Meissner's wife wanted him to build a canoe for her. He picked a Nipmuc kit from Newfound Woodworking. At 17' long and 35" beam, it was big enough to hold all three of them and the dog.
Skiff Coffee Table
After forty years of building skiffs and dories, first, under the tutelage of the old timer, Fred Tarbox, at Lowell’s Boat Shop and later as Parker River Boat Works, this will be my first published launching.
