Nick Schade’s line of strip-planked Greenland-style sea kayaks are renowned for sophisticated performance on the water, beautiful lines, and sculptural hull details. But strip-planked boatbuilding is not for everyone.
When I first saw WoodenBoat Magazine’s boat design competition to design a modern wooden runabout, I was very excited. I’m sure most of the other competitors in this competition feel the same way.
An expedition micro that will accommodate 2 adults for a week-end or a single-hander for up to 5 days. Ability to take on some weather and deliver solid performance while doing so. For the crew: forgiving and predictable but fast & fun. Launch time should be kept to a minimum.

This 17' x 20" [5.2m x49cm] strip planked kayak is designed for comfort and speed in rough water. With a lot of capacity for gear, it can be used as an efficient expedition vessel while being fast, quick and fun as a day tripper. It will excel at downwind runs.
Riva’s only outboard designed in the early 50’s with a 25hp Evinrude. Some 140 models were built between 1950 and 1957. We have been fortunate enough to have received a good set of plans that cover all details enabling us to replicate this little treasure.
We designed a simple to build work boat with a vee-hull based on a proven work boat type, the Panga.
