Brian Dewan Sings: Songs of Land and Sea

Greenhorns are back to the Halcyon Grange in Blue Hill to celebrate the launch of this summer’s MAINE Sail Freight.

It’s a performance by Brian Dewan, a remarkable trans-media and performance artist from Catskill NY. Brian is well known in NYC and the Hudson valley for his iconoclastic work, ranging from accordion, electric zither, Americana, political music and “found sound”. He also makes his own musical instruments, known as “Dewanatrons” For this performance, he’ll be performing ( and recording) a series of songs from Land and Sea, a lovely launch and “farmers rally” for the Maine Sail Freight project.

Greenhorns are thrilled that Brian could come up to Maine to kick of their “traveling pageant of nautical+ agricultural logistics”. Brian brings a futurist-folk anthem to welcome farmers to join in “Shipping with ships!” for a more diverse, and more agricultural Maritime economy.

Brian has been working with the Greenhorns for the past few years, and recently on recording songs for “GRANGE FUTURE: Brian Dewan Sings songs of the Patrons of Hubandry”. That album, Greenhorn’s first vinyl!, will be included on board the Harvey Gamage with 11 tons of agricultural cargo from Maine’s own organic farms as it sails to Boston Harbor at the end of August. (See full press release for Maine Sail Freight below) Grange Future is also the name of the Greenhorns traveling exhibit and cultural project, it includes a blog, an ongoing oral history project a series of Painted Panels depicting the history and themes of the Grange, and a growing collection of Grange books, agrarian.

This is a family friendly event. Come, join in the fun!
