Sapele is an owner built trawler style boat. It has Douglas fir framing and bulkheads together with marine plywood. The hull is sheathed with fiberglass set in epoxy. The keel is 3″ wide and as deep as 14″ of Sapele with a sacrificial strip of purple heart. The keel is bolted through the hull with bronze bolts. The outboard engine in a well is connected via hydraulic steering to the helm. Sapele was built over a period of several years with the hull built on Bainbridge Island, WA and the cabin and painting done in Ellensburg, WA.
