Still high and Dry

My Girfriend and I built a Tango skiff and launched last fall its a great performing little skiif and the extended sponsons in the back by the motor act as built in trim tabs so it does not sqaut at all as it comes up on plane.  A Suzuki 20 scoots it along and about 29 mph. THe most interesting thing is that I used a cutting board from Beals for the dash board of the center console

TIPSY

1940 Witchcraft Runabout sold through Sears, Roebuck and Co.  I assume it was made in 1940 because the numbers 40 are stamped upside down on the inside side of the transom. Deck, gunwales & transom are mahogany. Outboard motor is a 1939 Waterwitch 571.11, 2.5hp sold by Sears, Roebuck and Co.

Stonewall Boats of Westport Massachusetts has launched "Honey Bee". Stonewall's 4th hull and 3rd of the "Honey" design. Honey Bee was built for John McDonald of Vineyard Haven Massachusetts. McDonald is a long time lover and owner of wooden boats. He is a staunch supporter of maintaining Vineyard Haven's working water front and the wooden boats that make that harbor special.

The boat was built to be and heirloom skiff for McDonald's grandchildren and future generations to learn the love of messing about on a wooden boat.

SHADOW of Gig Harbor, Wa USA. Maiden voyage April 14th, 2024. For his 3rd wooden boat build Stewart Nelson chose the SQUIRT, a Glen L. Design. The 10′ craft is outfitted with a 15hp outboard motor. You’ll see this Plywood and Doug Fir frame vessel following close in the shadows of craftsmans previous build the Lisa Rose; a 16′ Tug Along, featured in WB Launchings Edition #279. Stew chose the squirt design as his latest build because of it’s small size to share with his grandchildren.

Covid Boat

When Covid hit I realized I would have time to build a boat. So, I did, a Glen-L zip caught my eye and I got started. I wanted the look of the boat, but I also wanted to go fast so I over built and put on a bigger than suggested motor. First, I tried a 65 hp 1976 merc and my top speed was 40mph my goal was minimum 45mph. I started the build in August 2020 and finished in April 2022. So, after running the boat for the summer and not being able to make my goal I got a bigger motor. In April 2023 I got a 115hp 1989 merc.

In the summer of 2008, David M Jones of Suwanee Georgia was given a 1957 Speedicraft designed by Otis Borum of Jacksonville Florida.  The Honey Bee’s deck, transom and 25 percent of her hull were rotten.  Dave approached his Father, Morris A. (Pete) Jones Jr., of Durham, NC, with the restoration project assuring him it would take up space in his ping pong room next to his wood shop at Kerr Lake, NC for just a few months .  Five years later the majority of the woodwork was done.

Honey was launched a few days before Christmas 2023. She is a stout 13 foot skiff designed and built for the Westport River. She's built of local materials. All of her hardware and fasteners are from C.E. Beckman's of New Bedford and all of her paint is from Kirby's. The lumber started as Westport logs, Northern White Pine for the topsides riveted to the White Oak frame. She has a scarfed 3/4 inch marine ply bottom and canvased gunnels and foredeck. She is a rugged, strong and with her 25HP she's also fast!
