44th Annual Great Schooner Race in Maine

Every summer since 1977, the Maine Windjammer Association has hosted the Great Schooner Race, providing an opportunity for captains, crews, and passengers aboard traditional vessels from all over the Eastern Seaboard to rendezvous for a fun day of racing.

The event begins on Thursday, July 2nd, with a late afternoon raft-up in Gilkey Harbor, Islesboro (44°17'N 68°57'W). All vessels welcome. Informal small boat races and other salty competitions.

+Race Day is Friday, July 3rd, from Islesboro to Rockland Harbor (44°6'N 69°6'W). Race to start 11 a.m.+

Race finish (+) at Rockland Breakwater approx. 3 p.m. Anchor in South End.

Hailed as “the largest annual gathering of traditional schooners in America,” at least 20 schooners are expected to participate.

(+) Start and finish of the race are weather dependent. The race may be delayed due to windy/thunder-stormy weather or cancelled entirely due to unsafe/inclement weather.
