ATKINSON TRAVELER CANOE

This Atkinson Traveler, designed by Rollin Thurlow, was built by Otey Smith at the Northwoods Canoe Co. in Atkinson, ME, under the supervision of Rollin Thurlow and Peter Wallace. Otey and his family launched the canoe on Daicey Pond in Baxter State Park, and plan to use it as a family canoe on the waters of northern New England. The hull is made of Northern white cedar planks and frames, and covered with canvas. The thwarts are cherry, and the handholds are made from apple wood from trees in the Smith backyard in Harpswell, ME.
