BJØRN AGAIN

I built BJØRN AGAIN from plans and frame sections over 9 years of weekends and evenings. Following in the big footsteps of my father and grandfather, who were also both professional artists who built boats for fun, I fulfilled a log-time dream to build my own boat. The name is taken from my grandfather, Bjorn Egeli, who left Norway as a young man and sailed on tall ships all over the world before settling in Maryland to a successful career as a portrait painter. My father, also a successful portrait painter, built Galatea, a 30′ gaff-rigged cutter designed by William Atkin, on which our family cruised for many years. My mother’s father was a power squadron man and owned several beautiful and interesting boats, including a modified landing craft and a Chesapeake Bay buyboat. And so, my choice to build a runabout combines the best traditions of both sides of my family. Next up will be a simple sailing sharpie, from plans my father drew up.I live, paint and boat by the shores of the Chesapeake Bay in Deale, Maryland.
