BLUEBIRD II

The Launchings section of WoodenBoat No. 225 featured Wayne Mueller's skiff BLUEBIRD, a 17′ 6″ design that Wayne based on Tom Hill’s Long Point skiff and Mark Murray's Sea Hoss skiff. BLUEBIRD was built from meranti and sapele marine plywood on sawn elm frames. BLUEBIRD II is a much shorter rocking skiff that Wayne created based on the plans by Buckley Smith that are sold at The WoodenBoat Store. and based on the original BLUEBIRD. BLUEBIRD II is built from pine planking, with ash rockers, and cherry seat, deck, and transom. The captain of BLUEBIRD II, granddaughter Kelly, appears to have gained her sea legs. MaryAnn Mueller, grandmother of the captain, took the pictures.
