THE EMERALD

THE EMERALD is a Six-Hour canoe built by Roger Kofler of Jennings Lodge, Oregon. Roger followed plans in WoodenBoat No. 125 and also bought the book Building the Six-Hour Canoe from The WoodenBoat Store. He made the hull from marine plywood, with chine logs and rails built from poplar. The stems are Douglas-fir. He fastened everything together with bronze screws and ring nails.  Roger launched his canoe last September into the Clackamas River near Portland, Oregon. He paddles THE EMERALD in the Willamette River, near Portland, and reports that it exceeds his expectations for ease of paddling and stability. He add a recommendation of the design for “beginning or experienced builders alike who want a lightweight boat that never fails to attract attention and comments in this world of fiberglass and plastic.”
