EMMA

EMMA is a 10′ Chaisson Semi-Dory, which I named after my favorite niece. Her hull was partially constructed there at the WoodenBoat School and I completed her over the next few winters. Her construction is cedar planks over a white oak framework, fastened with copper rivets and bronze screws/bolts. Her thwarts are of white pine, with mahogany transom and trim. The floorboards are of southern yellow pine.It had always been a dream of mine to build a beautiful and functional wooden boat. It was challenging, but with the generous advice and help of good folks, I was able to complete her and begin thinking about the next project. It's an excellent design—I can see why it was chosen as one of the subjects of the building classes there at the School. She rows and handles beautifully, she's speedy with one person at the oars, but also has no problem with two adults and cargo. She’ll spend het time on Boston Harbor and in Rockland, Maine.
