Oiseau

Everyone seems to love this little boat. Building one of Iain Oughtred’s designs has been a real pleasure — his plans are superb and to my eye at least are a work of art on their own. She performs really well, just out paddling, fishing or taking on some easy rivers. I am thinking of adding a small sprit rig for light airs. Stability is limited so this could be interesting!Okume marine ply planking was from local lumber yard, white oak is used for external exposed parts and fir for internal parts and seat. Paddle is sitka spruce with white oak tips. All varnished with epifanes. This boat was really a test project to see how my skills stack up prior to tackling something a little larger. I made a few mistakes but I am really pleased with the overall result. Next up is a Guillemot I think.Further images of the build and launch can be found here:www.flickr.com/photos/23909613@N02/sets/72157633795805260/
