Surfboard

Ed Vickery helped to build and repair boats for quite a while before he built his first wooden surfboard. He built it from several woods including bamboo, black walnut, fir, aframosa, and paulownia; then covered everyting with a layer of 4-oz fiberglass. Ed describes the design as "a cross between an airplane wing and a carvel planked boat." The board is 7'8" long, 2' wide, and weighs about 25 lbs. He laminated the fin, which you can see in the second picture in contrasting woods to resemble a sunrise.
