My client wanted to circumnavigate, Cape Horn and all!  He wished to build the boat himself and had limited skills in boatbuilding, limits on his budget, and a space about the size of a double garage.

Sea Otter was designed for an adult night school class I was teaching in boat building, in which nine boats were built at one time. Actually the principles of construction used in Sea Otter are the same as used in many of our larger designs.

Safe, seaworthy, shoal-draft double-ender, with a flat bottom and centerboard. Lofting is required. Plans include 4 sheets.

With a submerged clipper bow and high tucked transom, Kayleigh is every inch a classic power sharpie skiff. Her flat rockered bottom gives great initial stability and easy beaching.

The Tolman Skiff has a Dory heritage with a “V” bottom and was designed to handle the inland and open waters of Alaska and is a very capable ocean skiff.

Carvel-planked, outside ballasted cruiser with choice of three or four berths.

Construction: Carvel planked over steamed frames

Alternative construction: Cold-molded or strip

Sail Area : Sloop - 528 sq. ft., Yawl - 579 sq. ft.

Lofting is required.
