1965 Grand Banks 36 Double Cabin "PRELUDE" — Hull #27 — Believed First Twin-Engine 36 Built — $40,000

Hull #27 of the Grand Banks 36, and as best we can determine, the first twin-engine 36 ever built. Mahogany carvel planking on oak frames. Teak-planked decks. Built by American Marine Ltd., Hong Kong, 1965.

We've owned Prelude for 25 years. When we bought her in Seattle she was already in covered freshwater moorage — and we kept her there throughout. If you know wooden boats, you know what that means for the hull.

She came to us with a story. Old documents aboard suggested she was originally named Hot Pursuit, hailed from San Diego, and served as a race committee boat — which explains why someone spec'd twins on a Grand Banks 36 back in 1965. Those documents have since been misplaced and we won't claim what we can't prove, but that's the provenance as best we know it. She'll still push to 11 knots when you ask her, though she drinks fuel at that pace. Her home is 8 knots, where the Lehmans are happy.

In 2016 she underwent full structural refastening and recaulking below the waterline — thousands of bronze screws replaced, hull rebuilt to the frames. Chine logs replaced approximately 10 years ago. If you know wooden boats, you know what that maintenance record means: someone cared for this one properly. She carries a Good and Serviceable condition rating. Brightwork and paint are excellent.

Twin Ford Lehman Super 135 diesels, ~3,300 hours each. Marine tractors that haven't been asked much yet. Generator: Marken 5.0 KVA, 91 hours — essentially new. New Blue Seas electrical panels throughout. Garmin GPSMap 740S. Dickinson Newport propane heater. Force 10 stove. Two Raritan heads. 400-gallon fuel, 140-gallon water. All recent maintenance done: bilge pump, rudder packing glands, hose renewals.

Appraised fair market value: $52,000–$54,000. Asking $40,000 cash — we want a fast clean sale, not a negotiation. The right buyer is someone who understands what they're looking at. That's probably you, since you're reading this here.

Two dinghies available separately: $5,000.
