BESS KAY

This is a reproduction of a Popular Science Magazine design from 1954 that they had called Anyone’s Boat, because they said anyone can build it in 16 hours and for about $12. I added a bit, spending over 300 hours and money into the thousands, to bring this to fruition. So glad I did! After twenty years as a woodworker, this was a wonderful project.BESS Kay is the first boat from BESS Boat. She is a 17′ lapstrake lake power boat. She comes in at 55″ wide and has a draft of 5 1/2″. She will take up to a 22HP motor. There are seven different woods in her traditional build. Sides are of Cedar. Gunnels and keel are Ash. Transom is of walnut. Stem is of Mahogany. Seats have Cherry and Myrtlewood. There isn’t a stitch of Plywood or epoxy on this boat. The sides only come up about 18″.This boat is meant to carry a family on the lake all day and be a companion on the beach during a picnic or play time. She was made in Oregon to take advantage of all the water from our lakes and rivers.
