Kick off of the summer sailing season with the Classic Mariners’ Regatta–beautiful wooden boats, highly talented sailors, and a jovial atmosphere that is more pot luck than yacht club! Since 1984 the Classic Mariners' Regatta has animated Port Townsend Bay with the Wooden Boat Foundation spirit that is quintessentially Port Townsend. The 2017 Annual Classic Mariners' Regatta will be held June 2-4 at the Northwest Maritime Center (NWMC). The event draws classic wooden boats from all over the state to race, rub elbows and celebrate wooden boats. The races are open to classic sailboats of all sizes, kayaks, dinghies and row boats. Wooden power boats are welcome to join in as spectators. The weekend kicks off with a welcome gathering and late registration Friday night. Saturday brings the skipper’s meeting at 9 am followed by two races, with the first starting at noon and the second commencing immediately after. Regatta participants and friends can enjoy an optional BBQ at the NWMC Saturday evening. A loosely-organized race for wood dinghies, shells and kayaks will be held Sunday at 9 am if there are enough participants; the final sailboat race will start at noon. The weekend concludes with an awards ceremony at 5 pm. The cost is $45 per boat to enter. Cost covers all three races, welcome party, Saturday morning’s skipper’s meeting with coffee & pastries, and Sunday awards ceremony with beer and snacks. The Saturday night BBQ is an additional $18.
