MARGARET

The classic lines and pedigree was Bob Luckraft’s inspiration to saving this 15′ x 8′ catboat. MARGARET was built in 1920, by Manuel Swartz Roberts. Roberts is credited to have designed and launched some 200 catboats from his waterfront shop in Edgartown, MA, on the island of Martha’s Vineyard.Since about 1985, MARGARET had been hiding in an upper state NY barn. She was desperate. Other than her keel, rub rails, bench seats, sailing rig and some original hardware, not much of her could be saved. An Atomic 1 motor was replaced with a direct drive. 24v, Electric Yacht motor. She has laminated white oak ribs, cypress planking, plywood decking covered with Dynel cloth. The rebuild took 2.5 years, and was relaunched in June of 2021.
