SUNDANCE II

SUNDANCE II was built in 1975 at a yard in Essex, CT on lines from Nathanael Herreshoff’s sailing dinghy GARYOWEN [1926], which was in turn drawn after Design #568 [1901], “Colonia Sailing Dinghy.” In the late 1970’s SUNDANCE II was transferred to a series of museums where she fell into disrepair, and eventually came to Castine in 1985. The owner did some important repairs to the hull, but the boat remained largely unused. I bought her in July 2017 and did an extensive restoration on her, modifying her rig to the gaff sloop of the 1901 design, building new spars, mainsail, tiller and mast hoops, replacing bronze hardware, and of course, painting and brightwork. Just shy of her 45th birthday, she’s back in the water!
