Imp

The IMP is a diminutive craft that wears many hats. As a ship-to-shore dinghy, you can easily tow or stow the craft on board a larger cruiser. For fishing, the flat bottom gives excellent stability with shallow draft, for getting into those out of the way fishing spots. It is easily car topped or carried in the back of a pickup for transport to the water. The lightweight IMP is easy to row and will really scoot with outboard motors up to 5 hp.The IMP is not only a handy size, but is inexpensive to build as well. The planking is 1/4" x 4' x 8' AB exterior or marine plywood. You can plank the whole boat with two and a half sheets... with material left over. The hull is built bottom side up, over building forms that are later discarded; a simple method of construction with a resultant frame-free interior. This straight forward construction makes it possible for the average handyman to build the hull in a weekend.
