The success of the proven Chesapeake™ hull shape led quickly to demands for similar tandem and three-person designs. The Chesapeake Double™ and Triple™ are high-volume touring boats, with a 700lb payload that belies their surprising speed.
Kingfisher’s shape was inspired by famous Chestnut Prospector. Hull width of 93cm, flat bottom and slim shape gives good stability and maneuverability. It is designed for crew of 2 with additional equipment (tents, fishing rods…).
A modified V-bottom, with constant deadrise in its after sections. Construction: Plywood and Mahogany over sawn frames. Alternative construction: Cold-molded, double laminated plywood. No lofting is required. Plans include 8 sheets.
In the winter of 2012 a very good friend leant me an old copy of Nautical Quarterly. An article about Catboats caught my attention — I was and still am taken by their beautiful lines.I decided to design one with the aim of building it in the summer.
