An outboard skiff with a wide bottom and moderate rocker that contribute to stability and the ability to carry weight back aft.
You think : I’d sure like to have a little harbor skiff to scoot around in the harbor/lake/river. And building a boat looks like fun, but I’ve never done it before; Not sure if I’m up to it.
Mia was the second design that I published, a 12′ runabout, inspired in part by William Jackson's 1955 design for the “Ace” which was produced by the Sande Boat Works between 1956 and 1962 (www.sandeace.com), and in part by the 1950’s designs of Hal Kelly.Mia

A stately 10′ rowing/sailing tender originally designed for my own first time build which is currently underway. I wanted an easy to construct boat, yet still retain the techniques and appearance of traditional lapstrake planking.

The input was “design a pure cruising boat”.The boat has wide internal volumes, limited draft, average/high displacement and sailing area which do not require a continuos sail change.The hull lines have been developed both to corner and round.We wanted to realize something new for deck design.
