30' BOLGER CAT-YAWL

Designed for us by Phil Bolger, Willow is a shallow draft (2’), leeboard cat-yawl launched in 1990. Construction is conventional carvel (cedar over oak, bronze fastened). She has a Yanmar 3GM30F diesel (3,500 hours) and full boat cover (new 2024).
Our request to Phil was for an uncomplicated design, comfortable for two to sail the inside waters of the Pacific Northwest (as built sleeps three). To that end, she has sprit booms and free-standing masts. There are no “systems” but rather: gravity-feed kerosene and Red Dot heaters, Origo non-pressurized alcohol cook stove & oven, portable toilet, manual anchor windlass, tiller pilot with remote for inside steering, etc. The boat is in excellent condition.
There is enough salient keel that she goes to windward reasonably well without the leeboards. With a large rig and shallow draft, she has a good turn of speed off the wind. We sailed her to Alaska (Glacier Bay and Sitka) in 1994.
