HERMIONE Visits Castine, Maine

HERMIONE

The modern-day French frigate HERMIONE is a reconstruction of the ship that brought the Marquis de Lafayette to America in 1780 with news for General Washington that France was sending a fleet and troops to support the American war against the British. The reconstruction, 17-years in the works, was authentically built in the same shipyard where the original was built. WoodenBoat’s Senior Editor, Tom Jackson, shares some of the details, during her visit to Castine, Maine, on July 14, 2015.
