Designed by Vancouver, BC naval architect John Brandlmayr, Sula was sold as a kit, which included yellow cedar sawn frames, stringers and backbone. She was built by amateur builder Robert Lockard in Seattle.

In 1949, 14 similar boats were built in Åbo båt varf Finland. ANDROMEDA is hull number 3. There are still eight of these boats alive.
