WOTAMA is a 38' 6" auxiliary ketch, built 1967-1974 by Cyril and Margaret Wriede in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia to the 1947 design of Edward R Weber, then of Norge Boats Inc, Darien CT (published in The Rudder, January 1950, pp 62-63). The plans show a fractional bermudan ketch rig with a self-tending jib, but she now carries a masthead ketch rig with a genoa and main and mizzen staysails.
This schooner is intended as a comfortable cruising yacht for a couple with occasional guests, and to be of simple construction so that Jack everyman can build it. It has a twin keel / centreline rudder configuration.
In 2012 Ashley Butler was in Cornwall to be found building two comparable yachts, one for himself and another for a client more or less in parallel, though no surprise that his client’s commission took priority when it came to meeting the completion date. By then Ashley, a versatile boat builder had developed his design and building skills from a variety of sources of inspiration and boat yard experiences.
JAGA, a 38′ wooden Atkin Ingrid, launched in 1955 after a 7 year build on Vancouver Island, BC by John Lerwill.
Extensive restoration by David Dickinson and relaunched in 1996.
