BARBASHELA

After an extensive restoration by the Lewis family in Florida, the steamboat tender BARBASHELA returned to the Gulf Coast waters October 17, 2016. She was designed in the late 1870s by Captain T. P. Leathers of the steamboat NATCHEZ, and gifted to MS. Varina Anne “Winnie” Davis in Biloxi, MS for use as a recreational craft. BARBASHELA measures 20′ 7″ LOA, 5′ on the beam, is made of cypress and has tons of rocker. She rows beautifully and has returned to her home at Beauvoir for display in the Museum.
