PELICAN is designed to commute from Florida’s east coast to The Abacos across the Gulf Stream. Making the 200-mile passage within a slim weather window requires a good turn of speed.
Kurt and Joan Magnusson restored this rowboat and re-launched it the summer of 2002. They found the boat at a yardsale in NH and bought it for $20. They replaced 11 ribs and all of the fastenings. They hired Skylar Thomson of Thomson Canoeworks in Connecticut to recanvas the boat.
The “CHELSEA” was purchased by me in 1985 at a marina in Somers Point, NJ after coming back from a trip to Jamaica and and being introduced to sailing on a Sunfish.
At just 39 pounds, this canoe is designed for easy portages in Derek Coleman's home waters of Killarney Park, Ontario. Derek designed an asymmetric hull with an adjustable, removable seat and nicely decorated bow stern decks.
My boat is a “couch boat” which is the only description I could think of since I designed it for comfortable seating and aesthetic Italian curvy lines.
Bill Spring and his grandchildren got a thrill from BILL’S THRILL, his Swifty 12 catboat kit from Fred Shell in St. Albans, Vermont.
San Francisco Pelican [12 foot] #2925 was launched Dec 12, 2022 at Austin Yacht Club after 1000 hours / 18 months of building. Plans and builders guide were purchased from Duckworks boat building supplies. Built in a traditional manner, Capt.
Rowland Hill completed this 15' x 4' York Delaware Ducker in November 2000. He got the plans from Mystic Seaport Museum. Planking is epoxied Sapeli marine plywood. Rowland used oak for the stem, rudder, dagger board, and cowling. He and his son sail the boat in Pleasant Bay, Cape Cod.
