Dom Zack of Waterbury, VT built this boat for his grandsons, Colin and Anthony, who live on the Indian River in Melbourne, FL. They launched it on the 25 of March 2002. It is a Footloose Beach Cruiser designed by Jordan Wood Boats. He used 3/8" and 1/4" marine plywood with frames made of fir.
Rene Burdahl of Innvik, Norway built a sailing canoe (listed here elsewhere) and a 14'9" Lowell Dory Skiff. Rune got the lines for both boats from John Gardner's book Building Classic Small Craft. The skiff uses Norway Pine planking, larch frames, seats, and knees.
When Brian Clark completed a yearlong restoration of his great-grandfather's boat, HELLEN, he promptly won three awards at the 2008 Antique and Classic Boat Society's boat festival in St. Michael's, Maryland: People's Choice, Competitor's Choice, and Best-in-Class Workboat.
Kevin and Pat Clair of Carrollton, Texas launched WATERMELON in March 2001. At just under 8' long, this kayak is a tight fit for paddler. She is a "V8" design from Versatile Marine of Carrollton Texas. The hull is made from 3 mm okoume plywood, and the deck from 1.5mm okoume.
Community School of Davidson is at it again, this time launching a Dave Gentry designed “Wee Lassie” built by 6th and 7th grade students at their middle school. Instructor Jim Dumser built it with eight students from the Friday “explore elective” over the fall and winter.
Kees Bugel first built an 18' cedar pulling boat designed by Ken Bassett. From there, he moved to this more complex Lala design by Joel White. The boat is cold-molded and includes a small Volvo auxiliary engine.
Esc.Key is a new solar electric river boat recently launched by Denman Marine.
The initial design brief was for a river launch that was similar in concept to the early 20th century Noosa River putt putt boats which had a hard top to keep the harsh Queensland sun at bay.
Following instructions in WoodenBoat Nos. 216 and 217, Karl Steidl built this 110-class pond yacht from mahogany strips 1/8″ thick by 1/2″ long. He glued these to aspen frames. The hull is 48″ long, the mast is 46″ tall.Karl was also busy building this USA-12 pond yacht.
