Launchings

Tom Wakefield built this 14′ Puddle Duck Canoe with plans from Gil Gilpatrick. He built the 45 lb hull from 1/4″ clear pine then coated it with fiberglas cloth and epoxy. The rails are from clear pine and mahogany.

I spent the Covid-19 Lockdown finishing Nā Mo’opuna (Hawaiian for The Grandchildren), a 9′6″ Nutshell Pram.

PATIENCE is a cedar strip hybrid 12′ Wood Duck Kayak. She is glassed in and out, and weighs in at 45 lbs. This was my first atempt at strip building. It was labor intensive but highly rewarding.

This boat has tight grain douglas fir stringers with local white ash ribs and was a home build.

Skin is 9 ounce dacron, coated with 2 part skinboat polyurethane.

Utilizes 5.2 square m windsurf sail on unstayed carbon windsurf mast.

James Ford of the Madison School District in Madison, NY, wrote to announce two launchings by their high school technology class, an 8' pram and a 16' canoe. Clark Craft of Tonawanda, NY, designed the pram, while the canoe is a John Scalzo design.

In May 2012, Jay Thomas launched his 15′6″ Voyager Solo canoe in Coot Bay Pond in Everglades National Park at the southern tip of Florida.
