Launchings

This boat is a John Harris design know as the Skerry and was built from a Chesapeake Light Craft kit. This was my first boat build and was accomplished in my spare time over about 10 months and a couple of weeks.

Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, offers a one-semester "Practical Ship and Boat Design" course that "aims to get students comfortable with lines drawings by lofting a sailing model full scale," writes instructor David Bill.

EMMELINE, named after the courageous UK political activist Emmeline Pankhurst, was built by Robert Stumm primarily for his recreational rowing pleasure.

Built with both tandem and solo mode.

Mark McGinley built this Iain Oughtred–designed 7-1/2′ Auk ELSIE KAY from okoume plywood as well as locally cut quarter-sawn oak, ash, and pine. She is the tender for his Pacific Seacraft PS-25 located in the Apostle Islands area of Lake Superior.

Re-launching of a 9 ft. Ken Douglas lapstrake row boat after some minor repairs, paint and varnish.

John Hudson modified this Wee Lassie canoe designed by Mac McCarthy by adding decking fore and aft. He used cedar strip planking over Douglas fir stems, then added fiberglass cloth and epoxy. The paddle is made from aspen and cedar.

Rene Burdahl of Innvik, Norway has been busy building boats. Among his recent boats are a 16' canoe. The plans called for cedar strip planking, but Rene used spruce and then glassed the hull inside and out. The seats are oak and gunwales are elm. The yoke and breasthook is cherry.

KAPETAN was launched May 29th, 2016 off the beach she was designed to break through waves to the sacred fishing grounds of Pacific City, Oregon. Wood used in construction was all made with Sapelle.
