Launchings

On July 1, 2013, William K. Wills launched 12-TOO in Urbanna, Virginia. He built the 12′4″ Yankee Tender skiff from WoodenBoat Plan #400-011 available from The WoodenBoat Store.

Over 40 years ago, boatbuilder Ray Speck drew the lines for the Sid skiff. He was living in Sausalito, California, at the time and admired JAYNE, a skiff owned by the harbormaster, Sid Foster.

Mike Magnusson built this solo wood-strip canoe for his son Stephen, using cedar strip planking and ash for the trim and seats. He used maple and wenge for the mosaic design on the side, and lacewood for the bow and stern decks. Fiberglass cloth and epoxy cover the boat inside and out.

Dennis Williams believes this 11' skiff to have built sometime in the 1950s. It was restored by Fabian and Sachs restorations. It was a sailing skiff, which Dennis had converted to a rowing skiff. He uses her in the West River at Shady Side, MD.

Julian Swindell found the plans for this Portuguese-style dinghy, NELLIE GRACE designed by Hannu Vartiala of Finland, who has these plans available for free at his website, koti.kapsi.fi/hvartial.

Michael Goodrich has read WoodenBoat for years and always wanted to send in his own new launching. When his son and daughter-in-law were expecting their own new launching with the birth of their first child, they asked Michael if he could build a co-sleeper for them.

After a two year journey, My wife (Nathalie), Two sons (August and Graham) and I have completed building our Eastport Pram. We selected this boat due to its easy car-top transport, versatility and beauty. This is our first foray into wooden boat building, and hopefully not our last.

The Swan is a CLC Light Craft “Wood Duckling 8” built over a two week period by 9 year-old McKenzie Kaufman and her grandfather Charles McParland of Tega Cay, SC. She was launched on August 6th on Lake Wylie in South Carolina.

This sectional kayak is made of plywood and fiberglass. When it was being carried to the Torch Lake in Michigan, two parts stayed in the trunk of my car and one part in the back seat. It turned into the whole kayak in a minute before hitting the clear water of the lake.

Along with the kayak GIANNI DI BOLOGNA, Jon Raggett designed, built, and launched both of these kayaks in June 2001. These two K-1 Flatwater sprint boats are 17 feet long, 17" beam, and weigh just 18 pounds each.
