Launchings

Rick Pope plans to row his Doug Hylan-designed peapod on every lake and pond in Vermont. He built the Beach Pea using just the articles Doug wrote in WoodenBoat magazines #133, 134, and 135.

I helped my friend Glenn Strombo build this Adirondack Guide Boat to the plans found in “Building an Adirondack Guide Boat” by Michael J. Olivette and John D Michne.We shortened the length by 16 inches to utilize more readily available 16 foot cedar planking stock.

Michael Goodrich has read WoodenBoat for years and always wanted to send in his own new launching. When his son and daughter-in-law were expecting their own new launching with the birth of their first child, they asked Michael if he could build a co-sleeper for them.

This N.G. Herreshoff 1889 designed custom built Coquina “L” has similar kind of rig than International 12 foot dinghy (1912) and small fore and aft decks with watertight compartments.

Rich Parlee in Ucluelet BC built this power canoe to resemble the Nu Cha Nulth whaling canoes of the Native peoples of West Coast Vancouver Island. She was built “out of my head,” says the builder, out of five-eighth red Cedar strips.

Chris Bell lives on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia, where he enjoys sailing in MINNIE THE MOOCHER, a 14′11″ canoe yawl. MINNIE is a Lillie design by Paul Fisher that is similar to his Ethel canoe yawl design and to boats that Lord Robert Baden-Powell built for the Boy Scouts.

Two weeks ago we launched a “périssoire” built with plans from François Sergent, a french naval architect, during la fête du nautisme at the lake of Eguzon.

Rebekah Rogers built her first boat, this Salt Bay Skiff, with her Dad, Dave Racicot.

John Campbell of Belton, Texas built a Charlotte canoe from plans created by Tom Hill, then he made some modifications.  John’s canoe now has an inboard motor borrowed from his weed trimmer.  The trimmer drives a 5″×6″ 5-blade propeller and can be removed when John’s lawn gets shaggy.

The Drift Boat was built from dimensions and plans in Roger Fletcher’s Book, Drift Boats and River Dories. Its design is by Woody Hindman in the 1930’s, a Double Ender with Transom.The hull’s sides are made from Cedar Strips as (normal construction is from Marine Plywood).
