Customized Wee Lassie IIThe canoe was built in 2009. The overall dimensions are of the Wee Lassie scale with the modification made adding 1″ in height to the gunnel. Length 13′4″.The hull is made from Western Red Cedar in continuous strips (not scarf jointed from smaller pieces).
These sectional canoes were made of plywood and fiberglass. When it was being carried to the Torch Lake in Michigan, four parts stayed in the trunk of my car and one part in the back seat. It turned into the whole canoe in a couple of minutes before hitting the clear water of the lake.
Community School of Davidson in Davidson, North Carolina launches the “Sea Spartan”, a St. Ayles Skiff designed by Iain Oughtred. Built in four months by students and teacher Jim Dumser in the Wood Arts class, the skiff is 22 feet long and rowed by a team of five.
Peter Philips summered on China Lake, Maine as a child. His cousins Sherman and Ray Kelsey owned this Jacoby Class step hydroplane (9' x 46"), which Peter has recently rebuilt. Named ME-53, she was relaunched in June 2004 after 6 years of restoration work.
Tim White of the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, Connecticut, writes, that this boat was part of classes run at the boatshop and started in September 2001. We used the original one page drawing obtained from Mystic Seaport of the Cape Anne Dory dated 1939.
From the Hill School Press Release " Instructor of woodworking, Luke Block, and his class at The Hill School of Pottstown, PA built 16 CLC 17 LT Sea kayaks. The boats were first launched on the Hill's own Dell Pond in late May 2002, as the opening feature of the school's year-end art exhibit.
Landlocked in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, we built our Skerry in spare time over four years from a Chesapeake Light Craft kit. The only stitch and glue boat we’ve ever seen is the one we built. Still don’t know if she’s right, but she seems to sail and row just fine.
John Zimmerlee created the VERSATILE CAT as a stable personal craft for fishing, birdwatching, or even paintball contests. She is very stable, being constructed of polystyrene foam glued to plywood. VERSATILE CAT has a 7' length and 5' beam, with two trolling motors for propulsion.
